Best Baking Dish Options for Peach Cobbler Dump Cake
When it comes to making this easy peach cobbler dump cake, you've got plenty of options depending on your kitchen tools and the presentation you're going for:
- Cast Iron Skillet (9-Inch) - My personal favorite for this recipe! A cast iron skillet gives you an even bake, a gorgeous golden brown buttery topping, and a rustic presentation that's perfect for photos.
- 9x13-Inch Baking Dish - The most common choice for dump cakes. Great for serving a crowd and easy to transport to BBQs, potlucks, and family gatherings.
- Casserole Dish - Works just as well as a standard baking dish but offers more style for serving at the table.
- Individual Ramekins - Perfect for dinner parties or portion control. You'll get mini cobblers with crispy edges in every serving.
No matter which option you choose, make sure to lightly grease your dish and watch for that golden brown top that signals your dessert is ready to enjoy!

Highlighted Ingredients needed for your new favorite peach dessert and why we love them...

- Betty Crocker Lower Sugar Yellow Cake Mix - This cake mix gives you all the sweet, buttery flavor you love with less sugar, making it a slightly lighter option. You can easily swap for a standard yellow cake mix, white cake mix, or even a gluten-free blend depending on your needs.
- Fresh Peaches - Nothing beats the flavor of ripe, juicy peaches in this recipe. They bring natural sweetness and a burst of fresh fruit flavor. If peaches are out of season, canned peaches (drained or in light syrup) or frozen peaches are great substitutes.
- Walnuts - Adds a satisfying crunch and a nutty depth of flavor to balance the sweet fruit and cake. Pecans, almonds, or leaving the nuts out entirely are all easy swaps based on personal preference.
- Coconut Oil - A healthier fat option that brings a subtle tropical note to the topping. You can substitute melted butter for a richer flavor or use another neutral oil if desired.
How to Make Peach Cobbler Dump Cake
1: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Grease your pan of choice. We used a 9 inch round cast iron skillet.

2: Peel and slice your fresh peaches. Slice one peach into half moon slices to lay on top and slice the rest into small chunks.

3: Toss peaches with honey, cinnamon and nutmeg.

4: Add the coated peaches to the bottom of your greased pan - layer flat and evenly.

5: Sprinkle your boxed cake mix powder over the peaches evenly. Drizzle the melted coconut oil on top of the dry cake mix and then add sliced peach wedges on top. Try to cover all the dry cake mix with the melted coconut oil. You can even use some of the peach juice to cover the dry spots.

6: Sprinkle with chopped walnuts.

7: Bake in the oven for 40-45 minutes until golden brown on top.

8: Once baking is complete, remove from oven let cool and scoop to serve with a side of Vanilla Ice Cream or Greek Yogurt.

Expert Tips for the Perfect Cast Iron Skillet Peach Cobbler Dump Cake
- Preheat Your Skillet - Warm your cast iron skillet in the oven for a few minutes before adding the ingredients to help achieve an even bake and a crisp, golden brown edge.
- Use Ripe, Juicy Peaches - Fresh peaches give the best flavor, but if using canned peaches in heavy syrup or light syrup, drain slightly and reserve a bit of peach juice for added moisture.
- Layer for Success - Add the peaches first, followed by an even layer of dry cake mix. Avoid stirring; the layering helps create the distinct buttery cake layer on top.
- Coconut Oil Drizzle - Drizzle melted coconut oil evenly over the top of the cake mix. Make sure to cover as much as possible to prevent dry spots.
- Optional Crunch Factor - Sprinkle chopped walnuts, pecans, or even a graham cracker crumble over the top for added texture.
- Flavor Boost - Add a splash of vanilla extract or a sprinkle of cinnamon over the peaches for extra warmth and depth of flavor.
- Watch for Doneness - Bake until the top is golden brown and the peach filling is bubbling around the edges. Overbaking can dry out the cake.
- Serve It Right - For a picture-perfect presentation, serve warm with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
- Storage Tips - Store leftovers in an airtight container or cover the skillet tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Refrigerate for up to 3-4 days.
- Reheating Perfection - Reheat in the oven at 325°F for 10-15 minutes to maintain the crisp topping. The microwave works in a pinch but may soften the texture.
