Ingredients needed and substitutions:
Fresh Peaches - If it is not peach season no worries here are 3 options you can use as a substitution for fresh peaches:
- Frozen Peaches: Frozen peaches are a convenient and healthy alternative, often picked at peak ripeness. Simply thaw them before using and drain any excess liquid to avoid making the crisp too watery.
- Canned Peaches (in Water or Light Syrup): Canned peaches can work well too, but opt for those packed in water or light syrup to keep it healthier. Be sure to drain and rinse them if they’re packed in syrup to reduce added sugars.
- Other Stone Fruits: If peaches aren’t available, fruits like nectarines, apricots, or plums can be used in place of peaches. They offer a similar sweetness and texture, making for a delicious and seasonal variation of the crisp.
Honey - Honey is a great natural sweetener for healthier recipes. You can substitute honey with Maple Syrup, Agave Syrup or Coconut Sugar if you don't have honey on hand.
Rolled Oats - We used Anthony's Organic Old Fashioned Rolled Oats for this fruit crisp recipe. You could substitute the rolled oats with Quinoa Flakes for a gluten free peach crisp or even chopped nuts.

Expert Tips
- Use Ripe, Firm Peaches: Choose peaches that are ripe but still firm to prevent them from becoming too mushy during baking. This ensures a perfect texture for the filling.
- Peel or Leave Skin On: If you're pressed for time or prefer more fiber, you can leave the peach skins on. The skins soften during baking and add a bit of texture, though peeling the peaches creates a smoother filling.
- Balance Sweetness: Adjust the sweetness based on the ripeness of your peaches. If the peaches are super sweet, reduce the sweetener in the filling to avoid an overly sugary dessert.
- Add a Citrus Kick: A squeeze of lemon or orange juice adds a bright, refreshing contrast to the sweetness of the peaches and helps prevent browning.
- Use Whole Grain Flour: For a healthier crisp, swap regular flour in the topping for whole grain flour or a mix of almond flour and coconut flour. This boosts fiber and adds a slightly nutty flavor.
- Add Spices for Depth: Enhance the flavor of your crisp with warm spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, or ginger. These spices complement the peaches perfectly and add depth to the dessert.
- Incorporate Healthy Fats: Use heart-healthy fats like coconut oil or a small amount of grass-fed butter in the topping. This keeps the dish moist without adding too much saturated fat.
- Cool Completely Before Storing: Let the peach crisp cool to room temperature before covering or storing it to avoid excess moisture from condensation, which can make the topping soggy.
- Refrigerate for Longer Freshness: Store the crisp in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. This helps preserve the freshness of the peaches and keeps the topping crunchy.
- Reheat in the Oven: To maintain a crispy topping, reheat leftovers in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10-15 minutes. This will restore the crisp texture better than microwaving, which can make it soggy.
