Ingredients needed and substitutions
Flour - For this recipe I used Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free All Purpose Baking Flour. If you want to make a homemade keto tortilla swap with Bob's Red Mill Almond Flour.
Olive Oil - Any organic extra virgin olive oil will work for this recipe. For some extra flavor try using a garlic or basil flavored olive oil.
Seasonings - I added fresh diced chives and red pepper flakes for some extra spice. Trader Joe's Everything But the Bagel Seasoning is fun to add in as well.
Tortilla Press - I used an 8 inch aluminum tortilla press that I picked up on Amazon and it worked great. You will also need parchment paper which Amazon has in 8 inch round circles which worked perfect.
How to Make Homemade Vegan Flour Tortillas
1: In a large bowl combine your flour, baking powder and sea salt and mix well. Next add in your oil, water and chopped chives then stir.
2: As you mix your ingredients a dough ball will start to form - knead the dough with your hands for 1-2 minutes.
3: Place your dough back in the bowling cover with Saran Wrap and let it rest for 30 minutes.
4: Grab a golf ball size piece of dough and roll into a ball and place on your tortilla press between 2 sheets of parchment paper.
5: Open the lid of your tortilla press and peel off the parchment paper and you will have your tortilla ready to place on your pan.
6: Place your tortilla in a heated ungreased skillet. Let it cook for 45 seconds to one minute and then flip and cook for an additional minute.
7: Remove from skillet and serve. Fold into taco shapes and fill with your favorite veggies or cast iron skillet chicken slices.
