It seems like the hottest cake design right now is the Piñata Mini Cake. This Mini Angel Food Piñata Cake Hack is basically a regular cake with a hole cut out in the middle which is then filled with goodies that spill out when the cake is sliced.
If you are looking for an easy piñata cake idea that only needs 10 minutes of prep time you have to try this recipe.

Angel Food Piñata Cake
This small piñata cake design is beautiful and amazingly delicious. Due to the ease and convenience of using store-bought angel food cake, this yummy dessert piñata can be ready to go in less than 25 minutes.
The sweetness of fresh strawberries or tart jellybeans with the light and airy angel food cake make for a match made in dessert heaven!
If you are having a party and entertaining a group of children you can fill your cake with candies like I did with the Jellybeans. For a Healthier Dessert fill your cake with fruit like fresh strawberries.

This Recipe would definitely be considered a Piñata Cake Hack since I just purchased One Box of Angel Food Cake Mix for my cake instead of making my cake from scratch but sometimes you are just short on time and that requires shortcuts.
I love Angel food cake because it is Low Cal & Fat Free and tastes like I am eating Cotton Candy.
In order to make a Mini Cake I used 4 Inch Round Springform Cake Pans. I had 4 Baking as I wanted to make 2 double layer cakes. I know there is a larger one in the Oven as well..that one was for my Mom she wanted some cake too LOL.
Ingredients:
- One Box of Duncan Hines Angel Food Cake Mix
- One Pint of Heavy Cream
- Powdered Sugar aka Confectioners Sugar
- Colored Sprinkles for Decoration
- Jellybeans
- Strawberries
Preparation:
Like I said earlier this is what you would call a hack which is basically a short cut to end up with the same look.
1: Bake your Angel Food Cake according to the directions on the Box. This mix is very easy you just need 1 ¼ cups of water to add into the mix blend well and then bake at 350 degrees for 38-48 minutes.
2: While the cake is baking make your Icing. I like to make a homemade whipped cream keeping my cake light and fresh, and so tasty. Take one Pint of Heavy Cream pour into a bowl and then whisk (I used the Immersion Blender with the whisk attachment) for about 2-3 minutes until it starts to peak. While I was whisking I was adding in about 3 tablespoons of the powdered sugar. (Pay close attention when mixing... if you over mix, it can turn to butter quickly)
3: If you don't want to make your own cake frosting feel free to buy your favorite store bought Icing or use Cool Whip.
4: Once your cakes are out of the oven and cooled remove them from the springform pans. Place one cake on your cake platter and then add a layer of your icing on top and then place your second cake on top of the first one. Now Ice the entire cake. I have a Lazy Susan that I sit the cake plate on to spin the cake which makes it easier to Ice quickly.
5:When the Icing is complete add your desired sprinkles.
6: Now for the delicate fun part...cut a slice out of your cake using a sharp clean serrated bread slicing knife to cut the wedge, gently extract the slice using a cake / pie wedge shaped spatula set aside or eat the slice.
7: Take your candies or fruit and carefully but skillfully place them inside the space where the slice of cake was removed. When adding the candies or fruit make the placement appear as if they are pouring out of the cake.
You have now created a quick easy Piñata Cake time to show off and have a party!
Recipe FAQ's:
Piñata's are commonly associated with Mexico. The idea of breaking a container filled with treats gravitated to Europe in the 14th century, where the name, from the Italian Pignatta was introduced.
Piñata cakes are 100% edible when they are filled with candies, chocolates or fruits.
You can add treats such as candies, fruit, chocolates and edible toys as filling ideas. Bakers will let you customize the inside of your pinata cake to fit your party theme.
Keep your cake cool or at room temperature. Heat will cause most frostings to melt and slide and it dries out the cake. In summer, or if your kitchen is very warm, it is better to refrigerate your cakes and then allow to come up to room temperature if you plan to serve them at a later time.
