Easy to Make - Preparing this taco crescent ring requires only a handful of simple ingredients and 15-20 minutes of cook time.
Ingredients needed and substitutions
Crescent Roll Dough - I used Pillsbury 90 calorie crescent dough rolls for this great recipe. You can find a variety of Pillsbury crescent rolls in any local grocery store.
Ground Chicken - Perdue ground chicken breast was used for this recipe but you could easily swap the chicken with ground turkey or any lean ground beef.
Shredded Cheese - Mexican blend shredded cheese was used for this taco night.
How to Make a Crescent Roll Taco Ring
1: Heat oven to 350 degrees F. In a 10 inch non stick skillet, cook chicken over medium heat until no longer pink. Add in Taco seasoning mix well then simmer 3-4 minutes then remove from stove and set aside.
2: Unroll your can of dough. Separate into 8 crescent roll triangles. Arrange your crescent triangles on a large baking sheet, arrange the triangles in a ring so the short sides of the triangle for a 5 inch circle in the center. Your dough ring will look like the sun.
3: Spoon your taco-seasoned ground beef or chicken chop meat on the half of each dough triangle closest to the center of the ring.
4: Next sprinkle your shredded cheese on top of the meat filling. If you want some extra spice you can even drizzle some hot sauce or taco sauce on top as well.
5: Bring each dough triangle up over the filling, tucking the dough under the bottom layer of dough with a table knife to secure it. Repeat around the ring until the entire filling is wrapped.
7: Bake 15-20 minutes or until the dough is golden brown. Cool 5-10 minutes. Now fill the center opening with your favorite toppings like guacamole, sour cream, refried beans, black olives, black beans or some melty cheese.
Slice and serve your crescent roll tacos..enjoy!! The perfect family dinner or appetizer.

Yes, you can save crescent roll dough after opening the can, but it's essential to store it properly to prevent it from drying out or becoming unusable. Here are some steps you can follow:
Re-seal the Can: If the can has a resealable cover, use it to seal the dough back inside. Make sure to press the edges of the can to create a tight seal.
Use Plastic Wrap: If the can doesn't have a resealable cover or if you've already opened it, cover the exposed dough with plastic wrap. Press the plastic wrap directly onto the dough to minimize air exposure.
Store in the Refrigerator: Store the covered dough in the refrigerator. The colder temperature will slow down the yeast activity and help prevent the dough from rising too much.
Use within a Few Days: Even when stored properly, crescent roll dough may not stay fresh for an extended period. Try to use it within a few days for the best results.
Consider Freezing: If you know you won't use the dough within a few days, you can freeze it. Divide the dough into portions, wrap each portion tightly in plastic wrap, and then place them in a resealable plastic bag. Label and date the bag, and store it in the freezer. When you're ready to use it, thaw the dough in the refrigerator before baking.
To determine the calorie content of a recipe, you'll need to know the specific ingredients and their quantities. For this chicken chop meat taco ring there are 103 calories per serving which is ⅛th of the taco ring.
If you don't have taco seasoning on hand, you can create your own blend using common spices found in many kitchens. Here's a simple homemade taco seasoning recipe:
1 tablespoon chili powder
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
¼ teaspoon onion powder
¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (adjust to taste for spice level)
¼ teaspoon dried oregano
½ teaspoon paprika
1 ½ teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
In a small bowl, mix together all the spices until well combined.
Taste the seasoning and adjust the quantities to your liking. If you prefer more heat, add more red pepper flakes. If you like it smokier, you can increase the amount of paprika.
Use the homemade taco seasoning in place of store-bought taco seasoning in your recipes.
- Low-Calorie Crescent Rolls:
- Opt for reduced-fat or low-calorie crescent roll dough to cut down on excess calories.
- Lean Chicken Chop Meat:
- Choose lean ground chicken to reduce fat content.
- Use a mix of homemade taco seasoning to control sodium levels. Include cumin, chili powder, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Vegetable Mix:
- Load up on veggies like bell peppers, onions, and tomatoes for added fiber and nutrients.
- Non-Fat Greek Yogurt:
- Replace sour cream with non-fat Greek yogurt for a creamy topping with less fat and more protein.
- Reduced-Fat Cheese:
- Opt for reduced-fat or part-skim cheese to maintain the cheesy goodness with fewer calories.
