Heart Shaped Cookie Ingredients
Almond Flour - I used Bob's Red Mill Super Fine Almond Flour for this recipe. Almond flour is rich in vitamin E and other antioxidants, which help reduce the risk of serious health conditions like cancer, diabetes, stroke and heart disease.
Maple Syrup - Traders Joe's 100 % pure maple syrup works well for this recipe.
How to Bake Heart Shaped Cookies
1: Mix almond flour and maple syrup until combined. Use your hands to shape your dough into a ball - cover in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour.
2: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
3: Remove your dough from the fridge and place between 2 sheets of parchment paper - flatten with your hand and then roll into a ½ inch thick sheet with a wooden rolling pin.
4: Remove top sheet of parchment paper and use a heart shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes.
5: Place your heart shaped cookies onto your lined baking sheet - cook for 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees F.
6: Remove from oven and let cool - ice with frosting and sprinkles if desired.
Bonus - Heart Shaped Cookie Icing Dip
If you want to decorate like I did, here are the directions for a quick easy sugar dip.
You need to add ½ cup of white sugar and 2 tablespoons of water to a pot and heat on the stove for 5 minutes until dissolved. Then add in 1 cup of confectioners sugar, 2 teaspoons of vanilla almond milk and ¼ teaspoon of vanilla extract and for the pink color add in a teaspoon of pink sugar sprinkles.
Heat over warm and stir and you will get a lovely pink sugary syrup to dip half of your cookie in and then add your favorite sprinkles.

Recipe FAQ's
If you don't have access to a heart shape cookie cutter, no worries! There are several ways to make them without one. You can shape the cookies as soon as they come out of the oven using a spatula or cutting a heart shape with a butter knife! Easy Peasy!!
Cut your cookie dough into desired shapes before you bake. Once the cookies are baked, it will be more difficult to get a clean cut.
Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5-10 minutes then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before decorating. I like to decorate cookies directly on baking sheets so I can stick the entire baking sheet in the refrigerator to help set the icing.
Expert Tips
- Room temperature ingredients - Make sure all of your ingredients are at room temperature before you start baking. Room temperature ingredients will mix together more easily resulting in a better texture.
- Measure accurately - Measuring ingredients accurately is crucial to getting the right consistency and flavor in your cookies.
- Chill the dough - Chilling the dough before baking helps prevent spreading and ensures that your cookies will keep their shape. You can chill the dough for at least 30 minutes or up to overnight for make ahead cookie dough.
- Bake one sheet at a time - Baking one sheet at a time will ensure that the heat is evenly distributed, resulting in perfectly baked cookies. Also be sure to rotate the sheet halfway through the baking time for even cooking.
- Store cookies properly - Proper storage is essential to keep your cookies fresh and delicious. Store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.

Any idea if this will work with a sugar free syrup or does it have to be real maple syrup? Thanks!
Susan
I think you could definitely swap with sugar-free maple syrup without any issue. Let me know how they turn out.
