Notes

Expert Tips for the Perfect Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Mug Cake

1. Don’t Overmix the Batter

Blend just until the ingredients are combined. Overmixing can make protein mug cakes dense or tough, especially if you’re using whey protein. A few small lumps are perfectly fine.

2. Adjust Cook Time Based on Your Microwave

Microwave wattage varies widely. Start with 60–90 seconds, then add 5–10 seconds at a time if needed. The center should look just set but still soft. It will continue cooking slightly as it sits.

3. Choose the Right Protein Powder

Whey protein tends to bake firmer and can become rubbery if overcooked. Plant-based protein usually yields a softer, more tender texture but may need a splash more liquid. If your batter looks too thick, add 1–2 teaspoons of milk.

4. Add a Chocolate Boost for Visual Appeal

Press a few extra chocolate chips into the top before microwaving. When the cake rises, they’ll create melty chocolate pools that make it look extra indulgent — perfect for photos.

5. Let It Rest Before Digging In

Allow the mug cake to sit for 1–2 minutes after microwaving. This helps it finish setting and improves texture. Cutting into it too soon can make it seem undercooked or overly soft.
